How We Started:
Daniel and Christy Semsen have been writing for the Church for over 15 years and have a great passion for the local church. Daniel started serving as a full time Worship Pastor in 2001, arranging for his own choir and orchestra, while Christy loved directing the kids choir at their church in San Diego, CA. Beginning in 2009, Daniel started arranging and orchestrating regularly for companies such as Brentwood Benson, Word, Lillenas and Prism. Around the same time, Christy was hired as an exclusive children’s writer with Word Music. Over the next ten years the two of them received 9 Dove awards and 19 Dove nominations.
On the heels of the Covid-19 pandemic, in 2021, Daniel and Christy Semsen felt a calling from God to start Semsen Music to fill the gap left by several choral publishers closing their doors. Knowing that there would still be a need for new choral music for the church (because they were serving in a church that still needed it), they took a leap of faith. They continue to be passionate about worship in the local church and are thrilled everyday to be able to resource it! They are overjoyed to be including their sons Nathaniel and Noah in the company, who are currently writing, arranging and working behind the scenes as a part of the Semsen team.
